Six weeks for discovering the inside of the fashion world

Blogs had always been a curiosity for me. The way bloggers post regularly, how they know about the subject they are talking about and the way they write about it.

This blog has been a great discovery to me, not only through writing the posts but by investigating and doing research on my subject. I have learnt things about fashion and the fashion world, where I would like to belong to, as soon as I finish my University studies.

Thorough six weeks, we have posted various entries with a wide range of topics, weekly. This topics were nevertheless, in some way, limited as we had to post according to a scheme which limited our creation boundaries. However, these limitations have also helped us deepen in our subjects and learn different aspects of them, which we wouldn't have learned that easily.

Even though our blog was related to the USA, in week four, I thought that Coco Chanel was the only one that really deserved to be talked about, as an important character in the fashion world.

This blog has enabled me to let my imagination fly far and wide. I would like to thank every single one of you who has visited our blog and specially Miss Erica Negri for giving us this amazing opportunity and letting us discover the magic inside blogging.

As i said on my first post: "Fashion. It's a way of living to many. It's an art. It's a peek into our personalities. It's playfulness. It's an escape or a disguise. Fashion is the mean people use to express who they really are, or it is also the way to hide their true personalities. Fashion is what you want it to be. Fashion is you"

Finally, I would like to finish with a quote of the recently passed away fashion designer, Óscar dela Renta:
"Everyday you have to reinvent yourself".

Recap of the experience: We will always have the movies

The great Charles Chaplin once said “Time is the best author. It always writes the perfect ending”.

When i read this quote i considered it perfect for this entry as this blog has reached to its end. It has been a really good experience writing all this entries until we reached, as said by the huge Chaplin, the perfect ending. I wouldn't trust anyone which would told me months ago that this would pass by so fast. As American writer Nathaniel Hawthorne said “time flies over us but leaves its shadow behind”, and that shadow it’s all the reward that we take from this blog.

What better than looking back to the beginning, and making a global impression of the experience of managing a blog for saying goodbye to it? I personally consider that it has been a really good experience, a hard and constant work but that i have really enjoyed a lot, as i have been writing about one of my passions, Cinema.
Writing a blog its a very gratifying activity, my mates and i have been able to prove it, you not only get fluency writing but you learn a lot searching information, information that you enjoy reading about. You learn how to use new media, we are all surrounded by it but we don't know how to use it at all. You also interact with people and you get involved in something really worth, you create a common project where you get implicate, which gives you responsibility and the sense of discipline.

The first entry was about my relation with cinema, where this passion came from and why did i choose to talk about this, everything goes in the genes and this is really in mines. In the second entry i talked about the tribute that Barack Obama made of the epic film “ How to kill a mockingbird”, one of the most important films of american cinema. I also wrote about the best online sources and social media where you can read about american cinema with the security of reading a reliable information, sites where you can find videos, information about new premieres, special contents of films…. You also could read (last week) about one of the most important events that occurred these year related to American cinema which was the recurrence on the stages of the great pair of actors “Danny and Sandy” (John Travolta and Olivia Newton John) singing “ You are the one that i want”, without ignoring the post dedicated to the great Al Pacino, one of the most important actors of the 70s cinema, a great example to follow and professional.

A really enjoyable and (unfortunately) short journey trough the american cinema of the 60s and 70s.

Three minutes of song, that's it.

You turn on the radio and it starts to sound a song that you have never heard. Somehow something that you cannot explain wake up inside you, it is like a sensation that says that this song hace been written and composed only for you, just for that moment that you are living. You close your eyes, let the music get in you.
And it ends, just like ends everything. Three minutes of song, that's it. Now you only can repeat it again, and again, and again; just to try to repeat that experience that you have lived.

Something like that have happened to me with these posts, my song has just ended and I want to repeat it once more. It is like the time wanted to run away and I tried to stop it but I could not.
I just hope that in this career that we have run together, we have achieve the goal of remember every song that has been important in music in the USA's history (from the past to the currents ones).
We have known the 27 Club , we have hug our dear Freddie ; because music is for you  and for everyone, because we know that we are living the XXI century and its chances  . Because "music gives life to everything"  although a song only lasts three minutes, that's it.
Finally, I really hope that I had make you sing and dance, which is just another way of smiling.

The best way to explain this is with songs, which is what this is all about. Just like Scorpions say maybe The best is yet to come because music will exist 'Til the end of time.

All in for USA sports

This sports section touches its end, having covered a wide range of different sports. The main character has been this one, sport in general. The aim was not to focus only on soccer, but to get to know better sports such as basketball, swimming, football, hockey... However, soccer has also been present due to the fact that the author considered people needed to take into consideration unknown facts.

The experience has been fulfilling, because it has enabled me to be aware of the main sports sources and also information sources in general, related to the US media. It's always interesting to be familiar with this kind of platforms, who knows if they will need a journalist in a recent future,

Furthermore, this activity helps us to enrich ourselves and be able to work about stuff that we're not experts about. On the whole, you learn, you expose what you alredy knew and you acquire the habit of refreshing a blog, with a weekly publication.

There has been 6 posts in 6 weeks all of them limitated to a single topic. We started with the personal connection with the topic ("Jumping to fame"), I focused on Michael Jordan and my previous experience with sports. Moreover, the second post was titled "The achilles heel of Pelé", a relevant case study. You might think, why soccer? you have Jordan, Phelps, Armstrong, Muhammad Ali... But, did anybody know that Pelé played in USA?

With "11 platforms not to be missed" we learnt about the different sources we were talking before, probably the most tough post to write due to the thorough research it is needed. I chose Phelps, "The Baltimore shark" for the prominent character, taking into account that he is probably the best sportsman in USA's history. Besides, I wanted to put the spotlight on a different sport; swimming.

"Sports Big Four" treated about the social media, highly related to the online sources I have mentioned before. Eventually, "Sports brushtrokes in 2014" was a summary of all the main events that have taken place within 2014.

To sum up, I hope you have enjoyed not only this section but also the others. A huge effort has turned into the blog we see today. We're always open to suggestions and critics. Thanks for reading!

For the last time

We have been together for six weeks being in contact with a post per week. The first post was an introduction about the topic. I talked about the idea that Advertising was essential in this world made out of communications: to sell, to provoke emotions in consumers, to revolutionize social habits, etc..

The following week   I showed you a great campaign made by Droga5, which included two products: Bing and Jay Z’s  autobiography. With that example we learned how was done an excellent campaign and how it achieved two goals: increase the usage of Bing by encouraging people to search Jay Z’s book’s pages.

As knowing lastest things about Advertising is very important, I published a post with 4 advertising online sources you’d to know. Here appeared websites like The One Club, Adeevee, Advertising Age and AdWeek.

The 10th of October you could learn more about the best advertiser… David Ogilvy, an advertiser man. He was the one who created the Advertising agency Ogilvy and Mather, which now is very known.

Because Social Media is doing great things happen in Advertising, I thought that a post about an example about Advertising + Social Media would be fine. Here we have Flying on social media, a post in which I explain how, using social networks and online presence, Air Asia sold more airline tickets from Australia to Malaysia despite being a small company.

To begin to close the circle of the Advertising topic, I gathered the best ads of the 2014. Here he had spots from Doritos, Audi and Volkswagen. They were very funny, so I recommend you to whatch them or re-whatch them.

It has been a good experience publishing posts about Advertising that, as you may see, is a topic which I like a lot. I have designed the blog which is another thing that I love doing: coding and designing. Maybe you haven’t realize that the background color changes depending the time you enter to the blog… Magic. I hope to create another blog soon talking about Advertising, coding, designing or something else.

For the last time,

The best of Advertising this year

We have watched thousands of ads throughout the year in the press, TV, posters,.. I think is a good moment to recover some of the best ads and camapigns of the year. Do you like the idea? Let's read!

#1 All Doritos commercials

Doritos has had a really good year both in campaigns and in seeing results from them. I have brought you a commercial done by the boys of Goodbye Silverstein & Partners.

The Doritos brand, wanted to reach the young audience but also to the "olders" (who are the ones that put the money and also eat Doritos!).

Here is one of the ads made for young people:

And the one for adults:

#2 Audi

This is more funny than other thing because the idea is too rare... well. Let's watch the ad that Audi did for their Audi A3:

Doberman - Chihuahua. Source: Audi [Youtube]

#3 Volkswagen

Volkswagen is known (apart from their cars, obviously) is for their commercials. In this case, they came with this ad. I like it because it shows a proactive man animating his workmates.

Sports brushstrokes in 2014

2014, a year of joy and pain for the United States of America, in relation to sport. During this year, a wide range of events have taken place. It's not over yet, but the moments lived have been unforgettable, for better and for worse.

First of all, the main soccer event, apart from the MLS annual championship, has been the World Cup in Brazil. It's widely known that, wether USA National Team is the best in generations, they can't compete with the first-level selections, such as Spain, Germany, Brazil... But the truth is that an american hero has emerged; Tim Howard.

The soccer team was kind of a roost, due to the fact that Landon Donovan, the best american player in history, wasn't selected in the 23 players that were going to Brazil. In the first knockout serie, against Belgium, they were quite inferior. USA managed to eliminate the Portugal of Cristiano Ronaldo, but they weren't able to defeat the sensation of the tournament.
Even though they lost, their goalkeeper, Tim Howard, had an incredible performance, with 16 saves, setting the record of the World Cup.

Changing ball, in basketball USA has smiled this year. The three main events were: the NBA Finals, the World Cup in Spain, and the women's World Cup. The american teams of basketball managed to win both tournaments, without almost no problems. However, the expected final against Spain couldn't be carried out because of our prompt elimination.

In the national tournament, the NBA, San Antonio Spurs won against Miami Heat comfortably. It wasn't Lebron James, Tim Duncan or Tony Parker but Khawi Leonard won the MVP of the Finals with three incredible performances that gave the Spurs another ring.

Last but not least, as every year, the most important event was the Superbowl. New Jersey was the scenery of the XLVIII edition of the NFL final, that faced the Broncos of Denver and the Seattle Seahawks. The team of Seattle won, achieving their first Superbowl in their history.

The duel against Russel Wilson and Peyton Manning was decided, with the win of the hawks player. However, the hawks quarterback wasn't the MVP, delivered to Malcolmm Smith for his decisive touchdown.

The best of 2014: Grease once again

35 years after its successful premier, “Grease” main characters, Olivia Newton John and John Travolta, had reunited to once again bring us back memories of that popular musical film which made a generational change among people. Alcohol, peer pressure, pregnancy, sex and smoking were some issues presented in this film, what made people develop on a more open minded society. This film which was released in 1978, but set in the 50s, is considered by many as one of the best films of the decade, and even now it stills being considerer like that, as nowadays is one of the most played “last-century film", and its soundtrack has been qualified as one of the most successful soundtracks in hollywoods history.

The success was so widespread that Rotten Tomatoes, a website launched in 1998 and devoted to film reviews and news about films, wrote years after its premier "Grease is a pleasing, energetic musical with infectiously catchy songs and an ode to young love that never gets old.”

In this unexpected (Being precise, both actors coincided on a festival, and without anything planned they show up together on the stage) meeting, John and Olivia, the teen principal characters of the film, and idols of one hole generation, put their voices together and sang the popularly known song “You're the One That I Want”, making their fans, full of surprise, remind what that music meant for all of them. Even though lot of time has passed, both actors demonstrated that their voices still sound as good as they did on the film, film which as i've told before, obtained fame not only for its interpretations but also for its soundtrack, selling thousands of CD’s all over the world.
John and Olivia’s voices were heard in every disco, shop and house 35 years ago, and now (last march twenty-seventh) they gave us the opportunity to hear them live, to revive once again those years of the 70’s, 80’s… those years of high school and the confusion of teen romances with infectious exuberance and humor.

A catwalk for the change

One of the most polemic and unexpected catwalks took place last 30th of september in Paris on the hands of Karl Lagerfeld. Head designer and creative director of the fashion house Chanel, as well as the Italian house Fendi and his own label fashion house.

On the presentation of the spring/summer collection 2015 on Paris Fashion Week, an unusual show took place. Karl transformed the insides of The Grand Palais into a urban city landscape, decorated with grey buildings with old style balconies, a street with an uneven pavement, real sidewalks and puddles.

The show started normally. Models walked alone or by partners, wearing pieces of different shapes and colours and from dresses, to the typical Chanel suits. All of them wearing flat-shoes and simple accessories. Models from all over the world. A huge variety of nationalities and beauties. Cara Delevingne, Giselle Bünchen and the young Kendall Jenner are some of the famous models that participated in this amazing show.

When all the pieces of the collection had been shown, from the far, a large crowd appeared. Leaded by Karl and his right hand Cara Delevingne by his side with a megaphone, and a large crowd of models following them. All of them holding banners with feminist slogans written on them and saying loudly and in unison: “What do we want? Free! When do we want it? Now!”.

A call for the rights of women and for the right to be different and stand out. Karl Lagerfeld once again, transformed his catwalk on a show full of glamour and a demonstration claiming the rights and equality of women to men nowadays. A real revolutionary in the eyes of fashion and society.

Social media, a must in fashion

What is the hottest trend in fashion right now? Social media. It refers to how brands in the named sector connect with their target market via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and so on. Becoming a part of the social media network, allows companies in the fashion industry to capture a large audience. Fashion brands most often utilize social media for advertising. Other uses include reporting news, updates, announcements, events, promotions, and customer service. For example Facebook, to explain events and explain their newest stories and news. Twitter, to make shorts announcements and advertise their products and publish their show dates.

However, nowadays, I would say that Instagram is the most important source for fashion designers to publish their collections and to have others advertise them. A huge number of brands nowadays, use “Instagram stars”. This means that they give pieces of clothing to girls or boys who are famous on Instagram, so that others see that they wear their clothes and notice it. And also, brands even have their own accounts to show their newest collections and to publish their newest campaigns.

“Ignoring the Internet [and social media] is madness” Diane von Furstenberg.

The blogesphere is getting access. Important blogs are opening their way through fashion world. Bloggers publish their latest acquisitions and where they have bought them so that their followers can buy those products if they are interested.
Teen Vogue published by Jason Wgenheim and Ring mybell by Ashley Madekwe as Ashley Davenpor are some of these world´s famous fashion blogs.

Music for you.

The presence of social media is something obvious nowadays in every topic.
Whatever you may want to do, you will have to use social media to get known and, somehow, get what you expect from that thing.
However, how powerful can be social media in music?
I will explain you an example made with one of the most famous Djs all over the world: Avicii.

Universal Music made an experiment which was called Avicii x You to show how greatly powerful could be social media. The online music community were asked to collaborate with Avicii by uploading their own musical contributions in five sessions over five weeks in order to create the next Avicii's single and doing what was world’s largest music collaboration.

Avicii (Source: Electronicamx )

By the end of the project, a total number of 4,199 producers from 140 countries contributed with 12 850 sounds. The campaign was featured by worldwide media - online, offline and radio. It was mentioned over 20,000 times on Twitter with #aviciixyou and earned 3,3 million views on YouTube – with a total media reach of over 100 million and counting.

After this, do you still doubting of social media's power? If I were you, I would not.
