Breaking the schemes, Coco Chanel

Coco Chanel, a woman who broke all the schemes and prejudices of society and helped in the labour of making women equal to men. Years may pass, trends may change but it is right to say that this woman, this icon in fashion and society, will never be forgotten. Coco Chanel.

An example of effort and reluctance. This fashion designer built an empire out of nothing. Raised in an orphanage, this is where Gabrielle Bonheur learned how to sew.  At the age of 20, she had already opened her first boutique in Paris, where she sold hats. Lately, she would start concentrating on clothing, cosmetics (Chanel nº5) and jewelry
"In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different"
 (Coco Chanel)
This legendary designer of the early 1900´s has left a legacy that has lasted from those years onwards. This fashion legacy marked the beginning of a new era in terms of women clothing. She embraced comfort and freedom in silhouettes over the restrictive corsets women wore. Her designs used typical menswear shapes and materials such as jerseys to achieve this. Moreover, One of her most enduring contributions to fashion, the little black dress and the suit that she claims suited everyone. She was also relevant in the field of jewelry and cosmetics.

She had her own style and dared to express herself. The three keys of her style were simplicity, elegance and comfort. Her brand, Chanel,  is one of today's best known and most highly sought-after fashion brands and has been one practically since it was founded.  Many designers nowadays such as Dolce & Gabanna, Karl Lagerfeld and so on, still take Chanel´s designs and products as models to achieve

Coco Chanel, a woman who broke all the schemes and prejudices of society and helped in the labour of making women equal to men. A woman who had a vision and that was stuck in a mission that years later and specially nowadays, we, women, greatly appreciate. Her spirit will live on.

Dear Freddie.

"I'm a shooting star leaping through the sky
Like a tiger defying the laws of gravity
I'm a racing car passing by like Lady Godiva"

-Q.

I don't know if you know about who I am talking about when I say "they call me Mister Fahrenheit".
You would probably start singing aloud the lyrics I have written above, and all along this post you will be humming it one time, and again, and again, and again...
Have you ever want to break free ? Or find somebody to love ?

Freddie Mercury wanted to.
There is too many information about his life which you probably know as, for instance, that he is the Queen's singer or he died because of AIDS. But here are 5 things you probably do not know about him.

  1. Although he was the king of the stages all around the world, he was so shy.

  1. He loved cats. He had 10 cats at the same time. Besides, he composed a song dedicated to one of them called Mr.Bad Guy.
  2. He and his manager confirmed to the world that he had AIDS the day before he died.
  3. One of Queen's songs and which was composed by him, Another one bites the dust,  was not going to be realized but Michael Jackson convinced him to do it.
  4. He referreferred to Queen as "the bitchiest band on earth."
  5. He once dressed Princess Diana as a man and took her clubbing. Nobody recognized her.

He once said that he "won't be a rock star. He will be a legend". And he demonstrated it every time he was on the stage.
I only have one more thing to say: Dear Freddie, who is now going to rock me now  ?

The Baltimore Shark

Michael Fred Phelps and gold are synonyms. The most successful athlete of all times, for a lot of years he has been King Midas; everything he touched turned into gold. Not in vain he owns the record of more Olympic medals, and more gold medals in one tournament. He defeated the record of Mark Spitz, another northamerican swimmer that won 7 gold medals in Munich '72. He was the sensation in Beijing 2008 and Phelps set the record in 8 gold awards.

He was born in Baltimore in 1985, and he didn't learn to swim until the age of 7. As he confesses in his biography, he was afraid of water. Once he learnt, he never stopped. Bowman was a fulcrum for him. He was like a father to him and made him aim to professional swimming. Phelps has been a premature star, at the age of 10 he broke a national record and when he was 15 he participated in his first Olympics; Sidney 2000. The genius of the water was 5th and won a diploma.

Four years later, he jumped to fame in Athens, 8 medals; 6 golds and 2 bronzes. The Baltimore Shark was born, and worlwide known. He targeted Mark Spitz for the following Olympics and he did the most impressing performance ever: 8 consecutive gols medals. It's not that he hadn't good rivals, Ryan Lochte, László Cseh, Ian Thorphe... But he was unbeatable.

Eventually, in London 2012 he won 4 golds and 2 silvers. Troughout his career, he has broken 34 world records and has won 22 Olympic medals. Not only that, Phelps has achieved the awards World Swimmer of the Year 6 times and the American Swimmer of the Year in 8 consecutive ocassions. Of course, he's been champions in the Swimming World Cup and in countless national tournaments.

Strangely, the american swimmer was told when he was a child that he would never succeed in any sport, because of his inhability to concentrate; he has TDAH. Later on, he became the best swimmer of all times, and he hobnobs with Michael Jordan, Schumacher, Maradona and a wide range of athletes to be the best ever.

Phelps was superior to the rest of his opponents, because of his incredible scale (up to 2m), and his ability called the dolphin's kick; a way to be faster in water by kicking the water and optimize his armfuls. No other secret is needed, he didn't wear the famous Speedo swimsuit that contained 1 litre of air and makes swimmers lighter, he based his work in effort and diet,

This sportsman is also famous because of his crazy diet, it contained 12,000 calories. and comprised pasta, pizza, eggs in industrial proportions. Is that the secret? Unfortunately, these days ended, and now he's making headlines because of different but not good issues. However, he keeps running his foundation for children.

David Ogilvy, an advertiser man

David Ogilvy. Source: Wikipedia
His name is David Ogilvy and he is maybe the best advertiser in the U.S. despite he was born in England (he emigrated) and worked there.  Ogilvy was born in 1911 and died in 1999. Throughout his life, he worked in different jobs: diplomat, seller, cook and a farmer.

As you maybe have noticed, he only succeeded in the Advertising world. Ogilvy began selling stoves door by door and, because of his success selling them, he wrote a manual explaining how was the method he was using. Some years later, Fortune’s magazine editors read that manual and considered it as the best selling instruction manual. His brother, who was working at an advertising agency (Mather & Crowther), showed to his bosses David’s manual and they hired him.

He was know of achieving all  his objectives. One example is when a businessman went to the agency with only $500 and wanting to promote his hotel aperture. Ogilvy used all this money to buy postcards. He sent them to the people who appeared in the local telephone list. When the aperture day arrived, the hotel was full of people.

The consumer isn't a moron; she is your wife

Prominent Character: AL PACINO

"Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer"

I want to specially dedicate todays post to an icon of the American cinema of the 70s, even though there have been lots of exceptional actors during the decades of the 60s&70s, this actor called Alfredo James Pacino, who’s most commonly known as Al Pacino, stands out for his strenght, aim of overcoming difficulties and perfect actuation. Born in April 25, 1940, he’s nowadays not only a really well-known actor but also a filmmaker. His fame came in the 1972 with the premier of the film “The godfather” when he was 32 years old, but his career as an actor and passion towards acting came earlier, when he only was a teenager. At the age of 17 he left school willing to start his studies at the Actors Studio (where he wouldn't enter at first, but would years after). He had a really difficult life, Alfredo’s character was really though and difficult to support, what made people see him as a mysterious person and a troublemaker, very important people for him passed away when he was really young, so he entered in drugs life when he was only 13.

In 1967 he shot his first movie Clifford Odets' Awake and Sing!, which was not financially rewarded, but which he found really worth it to start in the medium. Pacino debuted in broadway in 1969, with the film Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie? for which he won his first Tony Award. In 1971 he met director Francis Ford Coppola, who cast him as Michael Corleone in the blockbuster Mafia film The Godfather. Pacino's performance earned him an Academy Award nomination.

From those years till nowadays Al Pacino hasn’t stopped, he had shot more than 40 films, and had received 10 awards from 33 nominations. He is considered one of the most important interpreters of the history of american cinema, and he stills aim to remain active, as he said last August in Venice to the newspaper “El Universal” . He’s 74 years old, nevertheless has the necessary "appetite" to keep on doing movies. "My plane has not landed yet” he assured.
